Unique among Peterboro Baskets, this picnic basket set comes with TWO baskets, a classic large basket with two swing handles and an insert basket for serving or carrying extra items above your other picnic items. The nesting basket also has swing handles to easy carrying. Under the lid of the large basket, an elastic strip is secured for placing utensils. The outside of the large basket also has strips of hardwood to protect your basket and make for easy sliding on tables.
The basket does NOT include the Peterboro Basket brass medallion, because of the convention at the time, but it does include the Peterboro Basket stamp on the underside of the lid to confirm its authenticity.
Darkened with age, this circa early 1920s picnic basket is in remarkably good shape, even though it has been used for many years. It is still ready to be used for your family outings, perhaps because, like all Peterboro Baskets, this basket is made of hardwood ash.
The baskets, when nested, are approximately 23"W X 13"D X 12"H, 17½"H to the top of the handle. The interior nesting basket is approximately 22"W (which includes ½" metal brackets to rest on the larger basket lip) X 12"D X 3"H, 9½"H with handles up.
This item is unique and only ONE is available from the Peterboro Basket Co. It is a one-of-a-kind product made years ago by Peterboro Basket Company.
